Coding Challenge
Date: 13 January - 25 February 2021
Discovery Education's student Coding Challenge is back for a second year! In association with COBIS, we’re inviting British International schools to compete with their peers around the world to create their own app.
Children will gain a firm understanding of coding concepts like algorithms, sequences and variables – while practising computational thinking through problem-solving and the breaking down of tasks into logical steps.

This competition is open to all COBIS schools. A limited number of spaces are also available for FOBISIA, BSME, LAHC and AoBSO schools.

Tuesday Tutorial – Supporting blended learning

Join Chris Nash, Head of Community at Discovery Education for a live demo on supporting blended learning with Discovery Education Espresso.
In this live session, you'll learn how to combine age-appropriate online content with Espresso's newest tools to enhance teaching and learning - whether it's taking place in the classroom or at home. This session will also allow you to ask any questions you may have around the recently upgraded Espresso service.

Developing digital: from immediate need to longer term thinking (Webinar)

This webinar is a unique opportunity to hear from experts directly involved in the school support for effective teaching and learning during the current National Lockdown.
This focussed webinar features expert practitioners from the Dfe funded EdTech Demonstrator Programme sharing their insights and experiences working with Schools and Colleges on the development of online learning approaches since the first lockdown in March 2020.
This joint seminar will feature contributions from:
- Two of the EdTech Demonstrator schools on how they responded to the need for online and remote learning, lessons learned and how they have provided effective continuity of high-quality teaching and learning support for other schools. Both schools have embedded the use of Discovery Education online content into their everyday curriculum delivery.
- Insights about how Discovery Education schools have maximised High quality Discovery Education online content to support effective teaching and learning in and out classroom teaching contexts in recent months.
- Observations from the EdTech demonstrator programme lead on key advice and developments in remote education.

Advice for the current times (Webinar)

Immersive technologies can add layers of powerful impact to learning. Utilising augmented and virtual reality, powerful imagery or immersive sound effects and music, teachers can really engage with their learners and present complex concepts and knowledge more easily.
In this live session, you will learn how to enliven your remote or hybrid lessons with powerful, shared, immersive experiences to unlock the mysteries of ancient civilisations and the wonders of the world.
