    Andrew Hammond, Head of Hall School Wimbledon and Education Adviser for Discovery Education, has worked in schools for over twenty years in both independent and maintained sector schools.

    Previously Senior Director of Learning & Community at Discovery Education, where he was the Lead Author and Series Editor of Discovery Education Pathway, an online CPD programme, developed in partnership with the NAHT.

    As Head of Community at Discovery Education UK, Chris has been involved in education for 30 years as a teacher, lecturer, LA advisor and consultant.

    Chris has pioneered teaching and learning through the use of technology, has a passion for innovating and understands how technology can have a profound impact on the way we live our lives. He works closely with educators, focussing on best practice in digital learning.

    Experienced teacher and author

    Debra Kidd has worked in education for twenty-six years, teaching children from the ages of 4 through to post-graduate Master’s students. She trained initially as an English and Drama teacher in secondary education before making her way into primary and has been an AST, Head of Department, Assistant Head and Senior Lecturer along the way. She has worked in both mainstream and special settings.

    Debra is an Associate for Independent Thinking Ltd. She is an Artistic Director with the International Schools’ Theatre Association and has worked with young people creating theatre all over the world. She has also been involved in education in more disadvantaged areas including the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya and is involved in education projects advocating for the rights of refugees.

    She is the author of three books: ‘Teaching: Notes from the Frontline’ (2014), ‘Becoming Mobius’ (2015) and “A Curriculum of Hope (2020). She co-authored “Uncharted Territories: Great Adventures in Learning” (2018) with Hywel Roberts and has contributed chapters to seven other books, is a regular columnist for Teach Primary and Teach Secondary and has written for The Guardian.

    In 2014 Debra co-founded Northern Rocks – one of the largest teaching and learning conferences in the UK. She has a doctorate in Education and works with Leeds Beckett university on their international online PGCE courses and for several SCITT providers across the North West of England, supporting Initial Teacher Training. She works internationally as a presenter, teacher trainer and speaker, but is often to be found in a classroom with children working as a travelling teacher and practising what she preaches.

    An enriched and broad curriculum provides the strongest foundations for a fulfilling and future-proofed education; but with so many statutory subjects and assessments, and so little time, achieving balance is never easy. How can we ensure our curriculum delivers cultural capital and qualities for life, at the same time as preparing pupils for national tests?

    Experienced teacher and author, Debra Kidd, is an authority on curriculum. She has spent over twenty-five years working in schools, helping leaders and teachers develop a broad and balanced curriculum filled with hope and aspiration. Andrew Hammond talks to Debra about her passion for creating an enriched learning experience that prepares children for life.

    Sam Shallcross is an experienced computing teacher and digital leader within the Girls Day School Trust. She has spent over 20 years working in Junior schools, supporting teachers and pupils to enrich their learning through computing with a confident, critical and creative approach to their use of technology.

    EYFS teacher and Art coordinator, Bromley High School (GDST)
    Sarah-Louise Dunford is an EYFS teacher and Art coordinator within the Girls Day School Trust. She has a background in Forest School and Arts Psychotherapy, incorporating this into the Junior School to enhance creativity and resilience.
