Pupils at a Leeds primary school have been showcasing their coding skills during EU Code Week – a global event which celebrates computer programming.
Launched in 2013, Code Week aims to shine a light on the importance of coding while helping young people build skills for the future. The annual event is growing in popularity and last year over 4 million people in 80 different countries took part.
Children from Bramham Primary School – part of the Bramham and Shadwell Federation – celebrated Code Week by designing their own computer games and apps using Discovery Education Coding, the award-winning coding service for primary schools created by global edtech leader Discovery Education.
Putting their tech skills to the test, they created a fun computer game called Burst The Bubbles, where they programmed bubbles to float across the screen and go POP! They also created their own amazing driving games, using coding to make racing cars move around a track. They programmed the cars to steer and accelerate and enjoyed sharing the finished games with their classmates.

Having fun with computer programming is so important and because Discovery Education Coding is so engaging, our students can’t wait to use the platform. It’s helping them to build transferrable skills and has really sparked their interest in IT.”
