Espresso Education, top provider of primary school digital education content, is now Discovery Education

– Discovery Education in the UK Will Offer Schools Powerful, Relevant and Timely Digital Services to Accelerate Student Learning –

Espresso Education, the leading provider of primary school digital education content, and Discovery Education, the leading provider of curriculum-aligned digital content and professional development for K-12, announced today that they will join together under the Discovery Education name. The name change follows Discovery Education’s acquisition of UK market leader Espresso Group Ltd. Last year, Discovery Education acquired the company as part of its ongoing effort to speed the transition from static textbooks to dynamic digital content around the world.

“I am excited to hear that Espresso Education is to further develop its new relationship with Discovery Education and become Discovery Education,” said Christine Terrey, headteacher at Harbour Primary School in Newhaven, East Sussex. “I am also very lucky to have experienced first-hand the incredible commitment that Discovery Education has to the professional development of its teachers through my attendance at the Discovery Educator Network Summer Institute this July. I look forward to the significant impact that Discovery Education will be able to make in schools in the UK, especially mine!”

Effective immediately, Espresso Education will assume the Discovery Education name, with the following changes taking effect as the two companies move forward with integration of their high-quality digital resources and professional development services:

  • Espresso Primary is now Discovery Education Espresso: Teachers currently using Espresso’s services can look forward to accessing a wider range of high-quality tools and resources they can utilize to enrich curriculum delivery and inspire pupils. Discovery Education Espresso now includes more content created in response to teacher requests, which will help educators teach new objectives in the National Curriculum. Several brand new modules are available for the upcoming school year, including modules on online safety to help educators implement the new Computing curriculum, Mayan history for the History curriculum, and spelling and traditional tales for English.
  • Espresso CPD offerings are now Discovery Education Professional Development: Discovery Education’s professional development offerings in the UK are taking the best of Espresso’s 13 years of successful professional development partnerships with schools across the UK, and combining them with Discovery Education’s comprehensive, customized professional development to create even more extensive offerings for educators. Professional development will be more widely available, offered via more accessible routes and focused on broader educational/leadership/school themes – ultimately offering better value to schools. Discovery Education will provide a more robust and wider range of professional development, from half-day skills training to longer multi-day strategic programmes, which offer support at all levels from vision planning through to implementation.

In addition, Discovery Education will offer a spectrum of no-cost resources and professional learning opportunities to schools, teachers and pupils. Launching in the Autumn term, Discovery Education will be offering Curriculum Leadership Labs designed to address technology transformation in the context of leadership, literacy, maths and computing at the primary level. Additionally, “Days of Discovery” will be offered to local authorities with curriculum themes tailored to the needs of schools. Teachers will also now have access to an even more frequent and broader calendar of webinar events to give teachers the ability to tune-in to professional learning that is relevant to their classroom and their individual needs. A robust collection of lesson plans and related content on key topics will be available on an ongoing basis, such as the Espresso Coding Summer Camp that delivered valuable resources to support the implementation of the new coding curriculum.

“With Espresso Education rebranding to Discovery Education, we are bringing together the most trusted digital education companies in the U.S. and the UK, offering educators more high-quality content, more professional development, and more value,” said James Rosenstock, president, Discovery Education International. “Through the combination of Discovery Education’s unparalleled digital content and professional development, and Espresso’s strong content, services and partnerships with UK schools, we will continue to provide engaging and relevant products and services that positively impact pupil understanding and achievement.”

“Espresso has a proud heritage of serving UK schools since 1998.  From our origins as a start –up we have worked hard to deliver the best content and professional development support to schools,” said Lewis Bronze, founder of Espresso Education and Director of Content at Discovery Education in the UK. “Now, as part of Discovery Education, we are delighted that we will be able to deliver more best-in-class services and support.  We are proud to be bringing the Discovery Education name to the UK and can promise our school partners that great things lie ahead.
