Discovery Education’s Summer Coder 2024 Keep pupils engaged during the busy summer term with Coding! Sign up here What does the competition involve? We’re asking your pupils to create a fun, engaging and interactive game to showcase all their coding talents... and it can be on anything they like. We know children continually surprise us with their creativity, so let’s see what they can do! The competition will start on Monday 3rd June and all entries must be submitted by Friday 28th June. We’ll send over more details about the competition once you’re signed up. Get involved Tell me more about the prizes! It wouldn’t be a competition without some prizes, and we’ve got some good ones. There will be a KS1 winner and a KS2 winner who’ll receive their very own Coding robot, plus a FREE one-year subscription to Coding for their school too! Each teacher can submit 2-3 pupils’ games for a chance to win, so what are you waiting for? Here’s what teachers have to say about Coding! Simon, Computing Lead at Parkfield Primary School “My pupils love having the freedom to create games based on their own imaginative ideas, as well as having the chance to share and play each other’s too.” Martyn, Computing Lead at St Oswald’s Catholic Primary School “The best thing about Coding is that it covers all abilities. It’s 100% child friendly and grabs every pupil’s attention. It lets them believe: ‘I can do this!’” Hannah, Headteacher at St Mary of Charity Primary School “The catch-up units helped us to upskill our pupils quickly and boost their confidence. It also gave us the right resources to move lessons along at a pace that worked for everybody.” Previous Slide Next Slide Meet last year’s winners! We challenged pupils to create their own animation on something they’ve been learning about or something that would help their peers. Our 2023 KS1 winner was Daaris from Alpha Preparatory School in Harrow, who created a fantastic outer space animation. Our KS2 winner was Amelie from Starcross Primary School in Devon who designed an exciting underwater fishing game to support number bond revision!
