Teachers from schools across the north-east gathered at The Word, National Centre for the Written Word, in South Shields for a pirate themed day of digital storytelling on 30th January.

Hosted by Discovery Education, the event showcased the very latest ideas for using digital media in literacy. Teachers took part in an imaginative day of workshops and activities exploring how classroom technology and tools such as virtual reality and green-screening can motivate reluctant readers and writers.

Leanne Simpson from Barnes Junior School in Sunderland said:

“I absolutely loved the day! The best part for me was the virtual reality. It was amazing to learn about it and be able to have a go at it.”

The event was organised by the Discovery Education Community- one of the fastest growing professional networks for teachers in the UK. The Community connects members in their own school, across the country and around the world through in-person and online events, networking, idea sharing and inspiration.
