With heavy investment in technology across the school, and a number of pupils with additional learning needs, Head teacher Ken McGowan needed to ensure that the resources he invested in would provide his pupils with good access to the curriculum and would be enhancing their learning.

Balmedie School entered into a partnership with Discovery Education in December 2013 through a subscription to the Discovery Education Espresso digital learning service. The service provides the teachers and pupils with access to thousands of digital resources across the 8 areas of the Curriculum for Excellence in Scotland, from Early to Second Level (Foundation to KS2).

The teachers of Balmedie School have already seen the impact that the service can have on their pupils, whether that's through the literacy activities that support pupils with additional needs or the videos that provide pupils with a real-world context. The teachers themselves have also benefited from having access to trusted, curated content that is easily accessible at the click of a button - no more searching the internet for the perfect resource.

Our partner says

"As a Head teacher I've got to make best use of the limited resources that I have in the school. And I have to say, Espresso, pound-for-pound is one of the best resources I've got. It's used every day, in every class.Ken McGowan, Head teacher, Balmedie Primary School
