Livestream: Firewall recommendations

Some school networks may block new.livestream.com. Which can cause issues even if you’re viewing our broadcast on discoveryeducation.co.uk.

We recommend playing the archived test feed below, to check no filters or firewalls are blocking the connections.

If you can access the site but the video doesn’t play please white list the following sites:

  1. akamaiedge.net
  2. akamaihd.net

Note for WebSense customers: WebSense, the web filtering company, blocks Akamai from being accessed, which in many cases causes the event page and player to fail to load any content.

After allowing the above sites, if you still continue to experience playback issues we recommend opening the following ports:

In (rough) order of importance, they are:

  • TCP 1935
  • TCP 80
  • TCP 443
  • UDP 53 *

No special equipment is needed to view our online events. All you need is an internet connected computer (and a way to share with students - projector and speakers). We do however recommend downloading our viewing tips and requirements document, to ensure a smooth viewing experience.
