Using Discovery Education Secondary to support key English literature texts

Participants will use Discovery Education’s rich resources alongside web 2.0 tools to explore the impact digital media can have on the ability to discuss and engage with key texts. There will be opportunities to try a range of activities and strategies for engaging students with a text, for developing questions and for stimulating insightful responses.

Duration options: 3 hours or 6 hours

6 hour course

Goals:

  • Explore strategies with digital media for developing thoughtful and reflective discussion of texts
  • Explore how specific planning with digital media can promote classroom discussion
  • To share and reflect good practice of successful strategies in English
  • Utilize Discovery's resources in conjunction with web 2.0 tools to enrich teaching and learning

Outcomes:

  • Confidence in using a variety of strategies to stimulate the thoughtful and reflective discussion of texts
  • Understanding of how to plan digital activities to promote classroom discussion
  • Appreciation of a range of successful strategies from colleagues
  • Awareness of the range of Discovery Education's resources and web 2.0 tools, and how they can enrich teaching and learning

3 hour course
